EXHIBITION IN RETROSPECT 24/9 – 1/11/2009
MEGARON EYNARDOU OF THE CULTURAL FOUNDATION OF NBG, ATHENS
In cooperation with the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece, and commemorating the 2 years memory since the death of the painter from Alexandria (Egypt), a grand retrospective exhibition of his works was launched at the Megaron Eynardou in Athens.
The launching of the exhibition was celebrated with the presence of, and speeches from, Mr. Dionysis Kapsalis, Director of the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece, Mr. Anthony Papadimitriou, President of the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, and Mr. Ioannis Gerontis, Mayor of the Siphnians.
During the 40 days of the exhibition and with the care of the associate of the foundation, Mrs. Sophia Peloponnissiou–Vassilacou provided educational tours of the exhibition and workshops were offered to students from the primary schools of Athens.
The presentation of the published edition of the retrospective catalogue, referring to the four artistic periods of Yiannis Manganaris, was made before the launching ceremonies of the exhibition and was held at the Megaron Theodorou Karatza of the National Bank of Greece.

On the personality and works of the artist (both an educator and intellectual creator), and for the publishing of the catalogue spoke Mr. Anthony Papadimitriou; Mr. Dionyssis Kapsalis; and Mr. Nikos Papadimitriou, Archaeologist and Curator of the Cycladic Collection of the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens. During the ceremony a short film produced by the film director Dimitris Vernikos was presented about the life and the work of Yannis Manganaris.
